Working Hard to be Me

Remember that phrase when you were younger that started with "When I grow up..."? For me it was usually something different, but it always included writing. "When I grow up I want to be a writer and go to the University of Michigan" or "When I grow up, I want to be a doctor...and an author." Now that I'm older, I don't think about what I want to be when I get older, but rather who I want to be everyday. Hardworker. Kind. Good father and husband. Understanding. Helpful. Good at my craft.

While I haven't mastered any of these areas particularly, I don't mind being a work in progress. That is, as long as I'm working. When it's all said and done, I would like to be remembered as someone who contributed to this world in a positive way. More than anything, I want to be me. True to myself, unwilling to compromise beliefs. One day at a time, I guess. Who do you want to be?
